Position

Partner Nicolas Jean specialises in projects, project financing, and banking and structured financing. He acts mainly in sub-Saharan Africa in the fields of infrastructure, energy, real estate and telecommunications. He advises governments, public authorities, investors, local and foreign developers and industrial companies, and banks on development projects, their structuring, implementation (during construction and operation) and financing.

Nicolas recently assisted state-owned companies PETROCI-Holding and CI-Energies in negotiating a shareholders’ agreement with Total, SOCAR, Shell, Golar and Endeavor Energy to create a joint venture for building new infrastructure to supply the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire in liquefied natural gas.

Nicolas is a lecturer in structured finance law at Science-Po Paris and in business law (Master’s level) at Lorraine University.

Career

Nicolas Jean joined Gide’s Tunis office in 2008, before moving to the Structured Finance team in Paris from 2011 to 2015, and the Projects (Finance & Infrastructure) practice group since January 2016.

Nicolas holds a specialised Master’s degree in International Business Law and Management from ESSEC business school (2008), and in Business Law and in European Business law from Nancy II University (2007). Nicolas is admitted to the Paris Bar.

The practice is notably assisting EGL and the contracting states with the development of the Ruzizi III 147MWh hydropower plant in the Grands Lacs region. Other highlights include advising EDF on the development of six EPR nuclear reactors in India. The firm houses leading regulatory expertise in Michel Guénaire, who acts for several of France's main energy operators, frequently handling strategic regulatory disputes.
