Former Equifax CEO Richard F. Smith testified before two separate Congressional committees on the Equifax cybersecurity breach and the company's subsequent response and remedial efforts.

In his testimonies before the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking (October 4, 2017) and the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services (October 5, 2017), Mr. Smith reiterated earlier testimony (see previous coverage) and apologized for the data breach. He provided a timeline for the discovery of the incident, Equifax's response, and stated that resources have been made available for consumers affected by the breach. He acknowledged various missteps and offered potential solutions for protecting consumer data in the future.
