Career

Humphrey has been at Drummond Miller since 2008 and joined the Immigration Department as a solicitor in 2011. Humphrey has been involved in the changes and growth in our Edinburgh Immigration team in the last 10 years. He became a Partner in June 2016. 

Humphrey has a breadth of experience in Immigration litigation covering human rights law, EC law and deportation cases; deprivation of citizenship; Tier 1 and other PBS cases and very complex immigration cases. Humphrey is highly experienced in handling appeals at the First Tier Tribunal and the Upper Tribunal; and raising complex cases at the Court of Session; spanning over ten years in the field of immigration. He has been successfully involved in a number of complex immigration cases that has continued to shape the immigration landscape in the UK including the first and leading cases involving Paragraph 322(5) Tax discrepancy cases – Dadzie v SSHD (2018) CSOH 128 and Oji v SSHD CSOH 127. Humphrey takes a particular interest in fairness in decision making. 

He is dual-qualified in Scotland and England as well as being qualified to practice in Nigeria. Humphrey is also a member of ILPA. 

Humphrey is regularly involved in providing in-house training on immigration law and practice; and occasionally speaks at external events organized by outside organizations. In the last year alone he spoke in a number of these events in Aberdeen, Falkirk, Glasgow and Broxburn. He variously shares his legal insight in articles and blogs usually published on Drummond Miller website.   

Humphrey has a wealth of knowledge and clients and colleagues appreciate his thorough approach and straightforward advice. He brings an articulate, problem solving approach to Immigration practice and is highly regarded by clients.
