Introduction

Nermine has developed an outstanding practice, both prosecuting and defending a wide range of criminal offences. She is regularly instructed in cases involving serious sexual offences including cold cases, historical allegations of rape and sexual abuse. She is recognised for her skill in representing clients who are vulnerable, because of age, learning difficulties or mental health issues.    

Nermine is a grade 3 CPS prosecutor and is on the CPS rape list. She is recognised as disclosure counsel by the SFO in cases of the utmost seriousness and was appointed a Deputy District Judge in the Magistrates Court in 2017.  

Nermine has undertaken specialist training in dealing with vulnerable witnesses.

She is approachable, clear, persuasive and is known as a particularly talented jury advocate who always has the respect of the Court.

Appointments

Nermine was appointed a Deputy District Judge, Magistrates Courts in 2017.

Notable Cases

R v M: Acted as leading counsel representing a client accused of historical physical, sexual and emotional abuse of two generations of a family; the primary complainant published a book about her experiences, which also formed part of the evidence.

R v B: Prosecuting the armed robbery of a bank.

R v A: Defending a man accused of relationship rape, which on one occasion caused the victim to go into a problematic labour and on another occasion was committed days after she had a cesarean section.

R v I: Prosecuting in a complex conspiracy to kidnap case, used attention to cell site and telephone records to demonstrate the defendant’s movements; complex evidence presented to the jury in an easily digestible manner.

R v M: Successfully secured acquittals on all 30 counts on an indictment alleging rape of four sisters throughout their childhoods.

R v H: Represented the main defendant in an eight-handed conspiracy to supply class A drugs.  

R v P, B and H: Prosecuting a three-handed gang related s.18 GBH and related witness intimidation; defendants and witnesses all youths, involving special considerations.

R v R: Cold case, revived after fresh DNA analysis; represented defendant, accused of climbing through the complainant’s bedroom window and raping her at knifepoint; praised for sensitive handling of the transgender complainant.

R v S: Conspiracy to kidnap and blackmail within the Brazilian community.
