Criminal defence.

Position

Andrew is an experienced defence specialist who ‘always goes that extra mile’ and ‘is a fearless advocate who doesn’t shirk difficult trials.’ He has been recommended in ‘The Legal 500’ (2009, 2010 and 2011) and ‘Chambers & Partners’. Andrew has extensive experience in all offences (homicide, fraud, serious drugs, violence and sexual offences). Since his move to Lamb Building in 2009 the demand for this ‘tenacious’ advocate has rocketed. 2010 saw him involved in a number of very high-profile cases including numerous murder trials. The most notable of these was the successful defence of a man accused of killing his mother-in-law with whom he had previously been married. The case received considerable media coverage as the deceased, a published author, had also been married to a former Iraqi oil minister who was executed by Saddam Hussein’s regime. Other recent and notable cases include R v W [2011], successful defence of 13 year-old boy charged with raping his six-and-a half year old sister; R v Soboh [2010], junior counsel in successful defence of man charged with killing his mother in law; R v Dunne [2010], junior in the case of a paranoid schizophrenic who stabbed his former neighbour to death; R v Coker [2010], successful defence of man charged with historic ‘stranger rape’ allegation; R v Skibicki [2010], junior in Polish murder case; R v Barton [2010], successful defence of man charged with the rape of a 15 year old girl (the bad character application in this case included a conviction for raping a 90 year old lady); R v Cox [2010], 70 year-old lady charged with causing death by careless driving; R v Lewis [2009], defence of ex England international cricketer on drug importation charges; R v Coutts, junior in the case of a man charged with murder of special needs music teacher during asphyxial sex; R v Sulaimon [2008], London terrorist bombing case; 2011 saw Andrew appear in R v Mears where he was brought in especially to deal with the sentence of one the defendants in the ‘Lapland UK’ case. Last year also saw Andrew defend in, among other things, three murder trials, a multimillion pound conspiracy to cheat the revenue involving the setting up of a highly sophisticated vodka plant and the UK’s first slavery trial in over 200 years. 2012 sees his busy practise continue in the same vein. With two slavery trials already pencilled in for 2012, two murders already completed (one involving issues of morbid delusional jealously) and another due to be heard in the summer, his worth continues to grow.
