Jonathan Greer was a Solicitor with Higher Rights of Audience in Civil Proceedings, advising in all areas of Personal and Business Immigration, Asylum, Nationality and Human Rights Law, from initial applications to Higher Court proceedings.

Between 2008 and 2012, Jonathan worked as an accredited Immigration Caseworker in the voluntary sector and in private practice, regularly representing appellants in tribunal hearings.

Jonathan Greer provides advocacy in cases before the First Tier Tribunal, the Upper Tribunal and in the Higher Courts. He represents individuals resisting removal from the UK on Human Rights Grounds, most frequently under Articles 2, 3 and 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

Immigration Barrister Jonathan Greer has collaborated with Freedom from Torture, Manual Bravo Project, British Red Cross, and other voluntary groups in numerous legally aided and pro bono cases. He has successfully assisted individuals in appeals against refusal of legal aid funding and in applications for exceptional case funding (ECF).

Jonathan Greer delivers training courses in Immigration and Human Rights Law to internal and external delegates.

Jonathan Greer represents clients at Inquests, acting for families, workers, and organisations at Coroners Courts throughout the UK.

Jonathan Greer was a part of a team of Solicitors representing three bereaved families in Inquests arising out of the Hillsborough stadium disaster. Following the longest-running Inquests in British legal history, the jury concluded that the ninety-six men, women and children who lost their lives on 15 April 1989 were unlawfully killed.

  • Kamki v The Secretary of State for the Home Department [2017] EWCA Civ 1715 (31 October 2017) – Acting as the Appellant’s Solicitor in this appeal to the Court of Appeal in respect of the proper approach to be taken in cases of criminality of those enjoying permanent residence under EU Law.
  • HM (Iraq) v SSHD – “Cart” JR of the Upper Tribunal’s decision not to grant permission to appeal on the issue of the availability of internal relocation to Baghdad.
  • RC (Sierra Leone) v SSHD – Urgent injunction to prevent the removal of a victim of sexual exploitation and human trafficking to his country of origin where he feared further exploitation upon return.
  • TL (DRC) v SSHD – Judicial Review of the Secretary of State’s decision to dismiss the claimant’s further submissions relying upon medico-legal corroboration of torture as not amounting to a fresh claim.
  • HL (Malaysia) v SSHD – Urgent injunction application to prevent the Secretary of State from removing the Claimant to his country of origin in which he feared persecution on account of his sexual orientation.
  • Dong, R (on the application of) v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2014] EWHC 3100 (Admin) (15 August 2014) – Involved in the preparation of this judicial review of the Secretary of State’s decision to grant a child with special educational needs limited leave to remain, rather than indefinite leave to remain.
