Career

Douglas joined Henderson Chambers in September 2022 upon completing pupillage. He is developing practice across Chambers’ main areas of practice with a focus on commercial litigation, health and safety, financial services, property, and public law.

Before joining Chambers, Douglas was awarded a PhD in public and property law from the University of Cambridge. Douglas obtained multiple academic awards and scholarships, including an HSS Doctoral Scholarship and a Lord Astbury Scholarship from Middle Temple.

Douglas was previously employed as a Judicial Assistant in the High Court and in research roles at the Law Commission and the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford. At Oxford, he worked on the Housing After Grenfell project and published articles on construction law, building safety, the Building Safety Act 2022, and the role of the Building Safety Regulator.

Publications and Lectures 

Douglas has presented papers at leading legal conferences in Europe and North America, including Modern Studies in Property Law, the Association for Law, Property & Society, and was recently invited to speak on constitutional reform in Ireland. He has an extensive publishing record in preeminent legal journals such as Public Law, the European Law Review, and the Conveyancer and Property Lawyer.

His first book, The Human Right to Property: A Practical Approach to Article 1 of Protocol No.1 to the ECHR (Hart Publishing, 2022), was published in July 2022. As such, Douglas is well placed to advise on all aspects of disputes and potential challenges concerning human rights, property, construction, commercial and environmental law.
