Position

Julie has a broad practice across Chambers’ areas of work, in particular, employment and sports law, public and administrative law, commercial litigation, regulatory and licensing law, and media and information law. She has appeared unled in the High Court, County Court, Employment Appeal Tribunal, Employment Tribunal, and in the civil jurisdictions of the Crown Court and the magistrates’ courts. Julie has extensive experience in drafting pleadings and advising on matters in the above referenced jurisdictions. She has developed a particular interest in matters relating to equality and discrimination as well as media and information law, including data protection. Further, Julie has significant experience of urgent applications for civil injunctions and committal proceedings for breach of court orders.

Career

Prior to practising at the self-employed bar, Julie worked in the Court of Appeal of England and Wales (Civil Division) as the judicial assistant to the Rt. Hon. Lord Justice Burnett (as he then was) and the Rt. Hon. Lord Justice Gross, as well as the case progression lawyer with delegated powers for the commercial and intellectual property lists. She also worked for two years as the judicial assistant to the Chief Justice of Ireland during which time, she conducted research on the points of law of public importance and on the civil appeals across the full range of the Supreme Court of Ireland’s jurisdiction.

Julie also acted in a voluntary capacity for, amongst others, the Free Representation Unit (‘FRU’) as an employment law representative and Liberty (National Council for Civil Liberties) as an advice officer on matters relating to human rights and civil liberties. Julie has received numerous awards and scholarships throughout her education and bar vocational training including the Phoenicia Scholarship from the Bar European Group and a Certificate of Honour and the Malcolm Wright Award from the Hon. Society of the Middle Temple.
