Position

Chancery specialist undertaking contentious and non-contentious work in the core Chancery areas of trusts and estates, real property and conveyancing, and partnerships and quasi-partnerships and latterly in business disputes now dealt with in Chancery including equitable remedies in commercial contexts, directors’ fiduciary duties and insolvency.

Career

After pupillage with Edward Nugee QC (Wilberforce Chambers) and Sir Stephen Oliver QC (Pump Court Tax Chambers), from 1971 practiced at, and became a leading member of, 11 New Square Lincoln’s Inn (now Radcliffe Chambers) with which he retains an association. First associated with No5 Chambers when the Birmingham Chancery Court opened in 1982; full time member 15 years later.

 

Extensive court experience (rarely led) at all levels but mostly in the Chancery Division. About 40 cases in the Court of Appeal and two in the House of Lords. 

 

Author of several legal textbooks, most recently Mithani Directors Disqualification, chapter on new compensation regime (2020), and (with Omar Ensaff) EFP volumes on both corporate and personal insolvency (2018), incorporating the 2016 Rules.
