James' practice covers a variety of matters in the fields of commercial litigation, intellectual property and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). He focuses primarily on patents, copyright, trade mark and design disputes. Appellate practice has included work in the House of Lords decision in RPR v Yeda concerning patent entitlement to a cancer therapy, the Canadian Supreme Court ruling in CCH v the Law Society of Upper Canada concerning copyright in judgments, and the UK Supreme Court decision on the extent of Legal Advice Privilege that may be claimed by non-lawyers in R (Prudential plc) v Special Commissioner of Tax. 

James has wide jurisdictional experience having worked on cases in the USA, Canada, Isle of Man, Falkland Islands, England & Wales, and regularly advises on EU cross border disputes. Served as an ad hoc advisor to various UK MPs and MEPs on a range of IP and dispute issues. Through engagement with policy makers, he has extensive Government relations experience and advises clients on how to prepare for legislative changes and regulation compliance. A qualified mediator, listed with numerous ADR providers. Currently Chairman of the INTA ADR Committee.
