Luke GannonDLA Piper

DLA Piper has a strong reputation advising a sponsor/fund manager-focused client base on the establishment of some very sizeable alternative investment funds. Although it is well-versed across the panoply of alternative asset/investment classes, including private equity, venture capital and hedge funds, the team has recently been particularly active in advising regional fund managers on the establishment of real estate credit funds, an area of notable growth in the market as banks have decreased their lending activity in the sector. The firm has also begun to grow its investor profile and has recently advised UBS Asset Management Switzerland on its investment in GLP Japan Income Fund, one of the largest private open-ended logistics real estate income funds. Vastly experienced team head Luke Gannon is particularly experienced in advising GPs and LP investors across a range of mandates, including real estate, digital technologies and securities.

Hong Kong > Capital markets (equity)

Led by Luke Gannon, DLA Piper‘s capital markets team is particularly adept at advising issuers, including international companies, on their Hong Kong listings. While the core ECM offering may be smaller than some of its peers, it is able to punch above its weight by virtue, not only of its ability to leverage vast international resources for cross-border deals, but also to draw upon the office’s full-service capabilities. Life sciences, consumer goods and technology are particular sector strengths. The team was bolstered by the arrival in March 2021 of Arthur Tso from Kirkland & Ellis, particularly in light of his credentials advising Chinese companies on Hong Kong listings, and in November 2021 of George Wu from Herbert Smith Freehills who has particular experience advising on IPOs, and follow-on offerings in Hong Kong and US capital markets.
