Position

Gemma is a member of the Dispute Resolution and Insolvency practice. She specializes in insolvency, corporate recovery related litigation and shareholder disputes. She has advised private equity firms, insolvency practitioners, company directors, stakeholders, liquidators and other fiduciaries on both contentious and non-contentious matters. She has acted for both financial institutions and unsecured creditors of companies in financial distress and insolvency practitioners in a variety of formal insolvency processes, including compulsory and voluntary liquidations, receiverships, bankruptcy and examinerships.

Dentons Ireland LLP has significantly expanded its dispute resolution team following the headline hire of ‘top notchKaryn Harty in September 2022, who now leads department in Dublin and co-heads the global practice. Since then, partner Ciara FitzGerald and of counsel Lesley Caplin have arrived from McCann FitzGerald LLP and Gemma Freeman has been promoted to partner. They also link up with insolvency disputes specialist Gareth Steen. The Dublin-based team now represents numerous international and domestic corporates and has landed a series of large cross-border dispute engagements, as well as representing clients in regulatory matters. This has included major contractual disputes, shareholder oppression proceedings and fraud cases.
