My spread of work includes commercial litigation and dispute resolution, particularly claims relating to media, intellectual property, reputation management, defamation and image rights.  Contract and professional negligence claims, property disputes – both commercial and residential.  Privacy, discrimination and human rights claims.  (Whilst at Magrath I undertook a not insignificant amount of legal aid work).  Judicial Review, telecommunication, and data protection disputes.

I have frequently advised major clients in the music, entertainment and media sectors and I am a reasonably frequent commentator on legal issues in the press where a legal viewpoint is sought for a matter of public interest, and I am not acting for one of the parties involved.  Numerous reporters in multiple news organisations have my direct contact details.

1993-1994 – Partner at Robert Muckle, Newcastle Upon Tyne

1994-2011 – Magrath & Co (now Magrath Sheldrick) initially as an Assistant Solicitor but became Partner within 8 months and Head of Department from 1995 to departure specialising in Dispute Resolution.

I am a Solicitor Advocate with higher rights of audience in all civil courts up to the Supreme Court having attained the qualification in August 2007.

2011-2014 – Davenport Lyons, Partner in the Disputes Team and took on the Head of Team Role for the last 10 months at the firm.

2014-2022 – Gordon Dadds and Subsequently Ince Gordon Dadds.  Partner in the Disputes Team and notionally a “Deputy Head of Department” on the acquisition of Davenport Lyons by Gordon Dadds.  Became Head of Disputes in 2015 and remained Head of Disputes throughout the period of my tenure save for a 15-month hiatus when I was Joint Managing Partner of the London Office of Ince Gordon Dadds from July 2019 to October 2020.

Leisure

Most sport, particularly football and ruby union & cricket as a spectator.  I took up rowing whilst at Oxford and represented my college first eight, Newcastle University second eight when I was taking my law exams and Twickenham Rowing Club whilst I was articled.  I have also run three marathons (New York and London twice) and countless half marathons.  I enjoy travel and spending time with my family and walking my dog.  Film & theatre and music of many different genres.
