Diez Canseco Competencia & PI

Peru > Competition and antitrust Tier 1

Having grown from three to 20 lawyers in the course of six years, Diez Canseco Competencia & PI is arguably the sector’s star performer of late. The firm acts for an impressive roster of large international businesses on both contentious and non-contentious competition and antitrust matters in Peru. On the non-contentious side it provides preventative and risk advisory expertise, particularly on the implications of new legislation; while on the contentious side it is well versed in litigation. The team is co-led by Luis Diez Canseco, Robert Venero and José Carlos Gonzáles. Diez Canseco has illustrious credentials, having previously served as President and Magistrate for Peru at the Tribunal of Justice of the Andean Community, and also served as a Member of the Appeal Tribunal at the Peruvian Institute for the Defence of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI), he was recently added to the list of arbitral tribunal presidents of the European Union. Venero is the name to note for strategic litigation and competition disputes; and Gonzales is recommended for regulatory matters and has particular experience in the telecoms industry. Moreover, the team has been significantly reinforced over the course of the last year; firstly, with the arrival of Omar Alvarado -whose practice also takes in IP matters- from Miranda & Amado in February 2022; and subsequently (since research concluded), with the June-2022 hire of Roxana Arellano García, whose experience includes over 15 years at INDECOPI, most recently as the technical secretary of the organisation’s Competition Court.

‘What stands out about the team is the speed with which they answer queries and  that they are always focused on a practical view of the issues‘.

‘They try to provide solutions within the law and anticipate the risk levels of each of the options. As an in-house lawyer, this is what I look for from the external firms I work with‘.

‘In dense topics, they always show that the partners are involved and aware of the needs of the company‘.

‘In the billing they always send the settlements on time and in case there is any discrepancy, they solve it quickly‘.

‘They proactively keep us updated on any news or regulation that may impact our business, which demonstrates the knowledge they have about our industry‘.

‘Robert Venero participates in meetings with our marketing and commercial areas, understanding the commercial needs in order to provide the best legal solution‘.

‘Robert Venero has solid knowledge and knows the jurisprudence, so the answers can be given at a moment, which saves time and money in the decisions we make‘.

‘Luis Diez-Canseco is technically outstanding with hands-on experience applying EU/US antitrust and trade laws, which saves a lot of time in cross-border projects’.

With an ‘extremely efficient’ team co-ed by founding partner Luis Diez Canseco and José Gonzáles Cucho, matters typically involve third-party contracts, commercial strategy direction and consumer regulations, with the added benefit of OSIPTEL-relevant and Peruvian data protection standards know-how. Clients on the firm’s current roster include DirecTV and Huawei, alongside various other significant telecoms companies and public bodies.
