Career

Lawyer, Universidad Diego Portales (UDP). Master in Regulatory Law from the Pontificia Universidad Católica (LLM-UC).

He was an academic of the University of Georgetown in the Global Competitiveness Leadership Program (GCL). He is currently a professor in the Diploma in Environmental Law of the Pontificia Universidad Católica (PUC), in the subject “Environmental Conservation System in Protected Areas”.

In addition, he was an advisor of the Public Policy Centre of the PUC and currently is a member of the Superior Advisory Board of the UDP. In addition, he was a Member of Congress of the Republic representing the Region of Coquimbo between 1998 and 2010. Subsequently he was elected Senator of the Republic for the Aysén Region, being a member of the Upper House from March 2010 until March 2018.

Of note is that between March 2007 and March 2008, he was President of the Chamber of Representatives and between March 2015 and March 2016 he was President of the Senate. During this latter period he presided over the committees of Constitution, Legislation and Justice, Environment, Defense, Human Rights and Children.
