Position

Nigel Weston is based in Walkers’ Jersey office and heads up the office’s Finance and Corporate Group. He specialises in banking, finance, trusts, investment funds, regulatory matters, special purpose vehicles, listings and all aspects of offshore finance and corporate work.

Nigel advises a wide range of blue chip investment managers, global banks, private investment houses and major corporates. He works closely with top law firms and accountancy practices in London as well as local administrators, trustees and other intermediaries and service providers.​

Career

Prior to joining Walkers, Nigel was a partner at a leading offshore firm, where he spent fourteen years, latterly heading up the firm’s real estate funds team and advising on all forms of real estate holding structures, in addition to other mainstream corporate and finance work. Prior to moving offshore, he was at Simmons & Simmons for five years. ​

Memberships

Nigel has served for a number of years on the committee of the Jersey Funds Association, which works closely with industry, regulators and legislators. He has also been Chairman of the Legal, Regulatory, Tax and Compliance Subcommittee of the JFA. In these roles he has been at the forefront of the development of the Island’s funds industry, working on the introduction of Jersey expert funds and Jersey unregulated funds among many other initiatives.

He is also a member of both the Institute of Directors and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

Nigel has spoken at a number of conferences on a variety of aspects of Jersey law.​

The practice at Walkers advises major international banks and private equity houses on a range of financing arrangements, with particular strength in advising both lenders and buyers on real estate transactions. Beyond this, the firm offers assistance with secured, leveraged acquisition and fund finance, restructuring and Sharia-compliant transactions. Nigel Weston leads the team with a practice which spans the full banking and finance spectrum. Alexandra Corner advises on real estate and funds financing, while Jon Le Rossignol specialises in the financing and restructuring of real estate and private equity holding structures. Senior counsel Elaine Kelly supports clients with matters of general senior and mezzanine secured lending, and acquisition and development finance where Jersey structures are involved. Tristan Maultby is noted for his expertise in Islamic and real estate finance. Senior counsel Christine Fox, who joined from Collas Crill in September 2022, advises on cross-border transactions involving JPUTs, while senior associate Melissa Hellio, who arrived in the same month from Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP, handles fund financing arrangements.
