Work Department

Adam is a partner in our Competition, EU and Regulatory Group and has specialised in the competition law field for over 25 years. His practice encompasses both behavioural competition law (investigations and advisory work) and merger control, and he represents clients before the competition authorities at both domestic and EU level. Adam has defended clients in over a dozen dawn raids before the UK and EU competition authorities (including those by sector regulators), and he has significant experience in advising clients on issues relating to abuse of dominance.

Examples of Adam's recent experience include:

  • leading the Eversheds team advising one of the Big Six energy suppliers in the context of the CMA’s energy market investigation, which is considered to be the biggest investigation ever conducted by the UK competition authorities;
  • defending Severn Trent Plc throughout Ofwat’s investigation into alleged abuse of dominance in the analytical services market and securing case closure following the offering of commitments;
  • securing a marker for Type A immunity for a client following an application in a case involving the disclosure of strategic and commercially sensitive information;
  • acting for Dairy Crest Group plc in relation to the disposal of its dairy operations to Muller UK & Ireland Group LLP (referred back to the UK by the European Commission and cleared by the CMA at phase 1 with undertakings);
  • securing first phase clearance from the CMA for Mueller Industries Inc’s acquisition of the copper tubes business of KME Yorkshire Ltd; and
  • securing a significant reduction in liability for a client as a result of a successful appeal to the EU's General Court against the European Commission's decision in the copper fittings cartel investigation.

Adam is ranked by Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession in Band 1 for competition lawyers based in the Regions and he has previously been described to Chambers as "one of the best competition lawyers outside the magic circle". Adam has also been listed for a number of years as an outstanding practitioner in Euromoney's Guide to the World's Leading Competition and Antitrust Lawyers/Economists.
