Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría's core areas include project finance involving the energy, mining and infrastructure sectors, and syndicated financing where the group acts for both local and foreign banks ona full range of corporate-finance transactions. Other areas of particular strength are offshore bonds, shares issuance and aircraft finance. High-profile clients include MUFG Bank, EDF Energies Nouvelles, HSBC, LATAM Airlines Group, Mizuho Bank, Scotiabank Chile and Santander Chile. In recent work, the practice acted as local counsel to The Bank of Nova Scotia and Scotiabank Chile (among other lenders on two syndicated loan agreements extended to  VTR.Com and VTR Comunicaciones; assisted Banco de Crédito e Inversiones with a credit agreement entered into with Viña Valdivieso; and advised Gramercy Funds Management on the execution of a new credit agreement granted to Pacífico Cable. In capital markets, the team advised HSBC Securities (USA), Itau BBA USA Securities and Scotia Capital (USA), as initial purchasers, on a pair of soveriegn bond issuances (with an aggregate value of CLP103,950m) by the Republic of Chile. The team is led by office managing partner Marcelo Armas, in conjunction with Andrés Sanfuentes and Marcela Silva, who was appointed partner in early 2019. Tri-national firm (Chile-Colombia-Peru) Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría 'has a strong M&A department, with a deep bench of partners and associates for transactions'. The Chile-based team is highly rated for contractual and commercial law, M&A, joint ventures and spin-offs, and other significant strategic deals involving sectors such as energy, mining, retail, pharmaceuticals and technology. Significant clients include Mitusbishi Corporation, Quiñenco, Methanex, Salmones Austral, Fox Sport Chile and Grenergy. In recent work, the practice advised Banco Bilbao Vizcaya on the $2.2bn sale of BBVA Chile to Bank of Nova Scotia, including regulatory authorizations from the banking and stock market regulators and the Chilean stock exchange, as well as clearances by Chile's Antitrust Authority and the Canadian banking regulator. Other highlights included assisting EDF and AME with the $300 acquisition (through their joint-venture Generadora Metropolitana) of Sociedad Eléctrica Santiago from AES Gener and Norgener Foreign Investment; and acting for Walmart Chile on both the $150m sale of its financial services and credit card business to Chilean bank BCI and a long-term cooperation agreement for financial retail business development. Carlos Alberto Reyes 'provides best-in-class customer service while working through complex transactions, and his ability to provide solutions during negotiations are crucial'. The other key figures are Juan Pablo Wilhelmy, Juan Francisco Gutiérrez, Federico Grebe, Andrés Sanfuentes and Alberto Pulido A; Diego Bunster and Fernanda Echavarría are notable associates.

Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría is widely respected for its experience in Chilean projects, particularly in relation to renewable energy and mining. Additional infrastructure areas include transportation, hospitals, schools, telecoms, water and sewerage systems, and real estate development. The 10-strong team acts for clients including Antofagasta Minerals, Intervial Chile and Sacyr Concesiones Chile; indeed, recent mandates include assisting Antofagasta affiliate Minera Centinela with the $117m sale of Centinela Transmisión (which owns three transmission lines), to Red Eléctrica Chile. Other work saw the team advise Intervial and Cintra Servicios de Infraestructura, as members of a consortium that participated in the bidding process for a highway concession. Carlos Alberto Reyes (energy transactions, project development and finance) and Andrés Sanfuentes (banking, finance and infrastructure projects) co-lead the team. Senior associates Daniel Barros and Guillermo Vial (who both focus on infrastructure, project finance and capital markets), Catalina Silva (infrastructure, projects and finance) and Mario Fava (energy and natural resources) constitute a strong second tier.
