Career

Fernanda A. Tanure is a partner in the Environmental and Climate Change practice area at BMA, with a remarkable focus on administrative and judicial litigation and strategic resolution of environmental conflicts.

Fernanda has extensive experience in Environmental Law, working both in the government and in private law.

Her most recent role was as the Chief Legal Officer of CETESB – Companhia Ambiental do Estado de São Paulo, one of the world’s most renowned environmental agencies. As CLO, she not only determined the legal position in all demands brought by the Presidency and other directorates on a wide range of topics but also played a key role in major licensing projects in the state of São Paulo. She also had the opportunity to develop regulatory norms for licensing, sanctions, and management processes of contaminated areas, as well as establish legal strategies in administrative and judicial litigation.

In private practice, Fernanda handled nationally and internationally significant cases involving environmental litigation (including both collective and individual lawsuits) and provided advisory services on environmental matters. Her areas of expertise encompassed the management of contaminated areas, infrastructure projects, energy, mining, steel, industry, sanitation, agribusiness, forestry, construction, and real estate.

She actively participates as a speaker in various events and contributes with articles to books and journals.
