Hugh specialises in all forms of commercial property, acting for developers, funds, property companies and occupiers as well as trusts and syndicates.

Hugh has considerable expertise in property development, investment, regeneration, co-ownership and property partnership joint ventures.

He specialises in all forms of commercial property, acting for developers, funds, property companies and occupiers as well as trusts and syndicates. He has considerable expertise in property development, investment, regeneration, co-ownership and property partnership joint ventures.

In addition, Hugh has relevant expertise in higher education accommodation projects, public private property partnerships, the telecommunications sector and leaseback transactions. He has also acted on a large number of property investments, acquisitions and lettings.

He has given numerous lectures at external conferences on a wide variety of topics including in relation to the negotiation of joint ventures.

Hugh was a visiting Professor at the University of Law and has lectured on development and regeneration at Sorbonne Université. He has also appeared on a number of College of Law training videos, speaking on topics such as the Leasing Code and dilapidations.

Hugh was the head of the global real estate practice at Ashurst LLP before retiring in 2020.

Hugh was co Chairman of the European Urban Regeneration Council at the Urban Land Institute and is a judge for the International Property Awards.

He is a judge in the Property Chamber of the First Tier Tribunal and in the Employment Tribunal. Hugh is also an elected member of both Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council and is chairman of the River Hamble Harbour Authority Management Committee.
