Career

Guan Jian is a Partner of WFW Global LLP. He is a Foreign Legal Consultant (PRC) in the Hong Kong Assets & Structured Finance Group.

Guan Jian’s practice focuses on transactional and contentious matters in shipping and offshore energy sectors. He advises shipowners, charterers, energy companies and their financiers and on a wide array of cross-jurisdictional projects, with a focus on asset and structured finance, leasing transactions, restructurings and work-outs, shipping joint ventures, as well as on the commercial matters relating to construction, sale and purchase, chartering and operation of vessels and off-shore assets (newbuilding and second-hand). Guan Jian has also been regularly instructed by clients to handle and manage cross boarder litigations, arbitrations and enforcement/winding-up actions in Mainland China, London, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Guan Jian has both private practice and in-house expertise. He started his legal career in 2009 in a leading PRC law firm as a litigator specialized in shipping, offshore energy and commodity trading disputes. In 2014, he joined ICBC Financial Leasing as senior manager and there he led the inhouse legal team responsible for the management of all legal matters of the company’s shipping and offshore portfolio. In 2017 he was recruited by China Merchants Group’s newly establishing leasing arm as their senior legal counsel and a member of its credit committee. He joined Watson Farley and Williams LLP as a Partner in 2019.
