Career

Here at Bird & Bird, I am a partner in our International Employment Group. I am currently qualified to practise in Hong Kong, Australia and England. This reflects my recent history where I have been lucky enough to be based in Hong Kong, Sydney and London. My luck continues in abundance as I am embarking on my American adventure and I am now based in our San Francisco office which I co-lead.

I have had a long-term interest and developed expertise in the PRC as well as Hong Kong. As a result, I spend a significant amount of time working with organisations as they navigate the complexities of doing business in China and Asia-Pac generally.

Our team manages projects and employment law challenges wherever our clients have people. We cover all aspects of employment law; I spent five years as a barrister in London and so enjoy both the contentious and advisory side of the practice.

I chair our Firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Group which is responsible for driving our DE&I strategy across all our offices.

Pattie WalshBird & Bird

Acting independently, as well as in coordination with the firm’s other 32 offices worldwide, the team at Bird & Bird advises on both domestic Hong Kong and international employment matters, solidifying its position as a key choice for international corporates involved in cross-border employment projects across various industries, including technology, life sciences, healthcare, financial services, and retail. Recently promoted to partner, Diana Purdy takes the helm of the team, advising on a complex array of employment matters. Notably, Pattie Walsh, despite her relocation to the San Francisco office, continues to play an active role in the group, harnessing her profound knowledge of the Hong Kong market and advising international clients on contract negotiations, high-profile redundancies, and workplace restructurings. Supporting the team, the ‘technically excellent’ associate Elaine Yeung capitalises on her prior in-house experience within the aviation and sports sectors; this perspective positions Yeung as a valuable advisor for corporates within these domains, as well as various other sectors.
