Career

I am a partner leading the Greater China Employment team comprising lawyers in Hong Kong and China. I also co-lead the firm’s CSR and D&I Committees in Hong Kong. I have over 26 years of experience handling the full range of employment matters, including contentious terminations, investigations, discrimination claims, restrictive covenants, employment litigation, executive contracts, data privacy, restructuring and APAC regional projects.

I have counselled companies across a range of industry sectors, including financial services, technology, logistics, pharmaceuticals, aviation, manufacturing, education, entertainment, hospitality and media.

In addition to having worked both as a litigator and advisory lawyer in private practice, I spent 7 years working for a global bank as Head of Employment, Asia Pacific, covering 12 jurisdictions. As a result, I am fortunate to be able to bring to the table a breadth and depth of insight which clients find valuable.

I work closely with a fabulous team of professionals, who not only enjoy and are good at what they do, but who also like each other. We work seamlessly together and meet regularly to ensure we are on top of client needs as well as the latest legal developments.

Diana PurdyBird & Bird

Acting independently, as well as in coordination with the firm’s other 32 offices worldwide, the team at Bird & Bird advises on both domestic Hong Kong and international employment matters, solidifying its position as a key choice for international corporates involved in cross-border employment projects across various industries, including technology, life sciences, healthcare, financial services, and retail. Recently promoted to partner, Diana Purdy takes the helm of the team, advising on a complex array of employment matters. Notably, Pattie Walsh, despite her relocation to the San Francisco office, continues to play an active role in the group, harnessing her profound knowledge of the Hong Kong market and advising international clients on contract negotiations, high-profile redundancies, and workplace restructurings. Supporting the team, the ‘technically excellent’ associate Elaine Yeung capitalises on her prior in-house experience within the aviation and sports sectors; this perspective positions Yeung as a valuable advisor for corporates within these domains, as well as various other sectors.
