Murtaza has extensive litigation experience of over 10 years wherein he has advised and represented some prominent corporations/ individuals on various commercial/ property related litigations to matters involving Constitutional law issues before the Supreme Court of India, High Courts and tribunals of various States. He has also represented his clients in high stake domestic and international arbitration proceedings.

Murtaza also holds expertise in real estate matters including, drafting and reviewing property related documents with a focus on advising and representing clients in matters relating to transfer of property and conveyancing.

Murtaza graduated from Government Law College (GLC), Mumbai, in the year 2009. He also holds a Masters in Business Laws (MBL) from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru. Prior to joining the Firm in 2019, Murtaza he was a part of HSA Advocates, ALMT Legal and Mulla & Mulla & Craigie Blunt & Caroe.

Select Professional Experience

  • Represented Standard Chartered Bank before NCLT, Mumbai in the insolvency and liquidation proceedings of Prag Distillery.
  • Successfully represented His Holiness Dr Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin before the Bombay High Court in the case concerning his appointment as the 53rd Dai-al-Mutlaq of the Dawoodi Bohra Community.
  • Representing Sardar Syedna Taher Saifuddin before the Supreme Court on the issue concerning the rights of the Dawoodi Bohra community to excommunicate its members.
  • Representing Anjuman e Shiate Ali before a constitution bench of 9 Judges on the issue of protection of fundamental religious rights.
  • Advising the Padma Chowgule Group of companies on the family settlement which led to the restructuring of the 104 year old Chowgule Group and on the arbitration that has arisen from the same.
