Career

Michael’s area of practice is corporate and commercial law with a focus on media and entertainment.

Michael has successfully established himself as one of the leading media entertainment lawyers in the Asia Pacific Region.

He was a member of the Singapore Film Commission Advisory Committee of the InfoComm Media Development Authority and an honorary legal advisor for the Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum and the Hong Kong Film Awards.

He has acted in local and cross-border commercial/corporate transactions involving joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, licensing, digital media, intellectual property, data protection, and regulatory advice.

Michael has represented some of the key players and financiers in the film and television industry in the region and has advised on a range of international transactions and entertainment-related issues including international and pan-asian co-productions, production services, financing (equity and debt), sales and distribution, co-development and acquisition of new IP, remake, adaptations and subsequent productions, releases and clearances, chain of title, format licensing, live concerts, and fan meets.

Michael has also been involved on the non-legal side of the business and has taken on producer and associate producer roles on some film projects in Asia.

“We have been working with Michael Leow since day 1 of building our company. His guidance, skill,  experience, and knowledge have been invaluable to us. Simply put, he is one of the best in the business.”

In my 18 years of working in film and TV, I have not met an entertainment lawyer more knowledgeable, detail-oriented, or expeditious. Michael is able to help find out-of-the-box solutions whenever there is a deadlock in negotiations. Invariably when the other party realizes Michael is on the deal, they will say with admiration and a hint of envy, ‘Michael is very good.’”
