Career

Daewoong Lee is a foreign attorney in the International Arbitration & Cross-Border Litigation and Engineering & Construction Disputes Practices at Kim & Chang.

He has extensive experience in claims, disputes and contracts in relation to oil & gas, power, infrastructure, industrial and environmental engineering, procurement, construction (“EPC”) projects. Throughout his career, his work has especially been focused in large scale EPC projects in the Middle East. In particular, he was dispatched to the Middle East North Africa (“MENA”) regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates to establish the position of MENA Regional Counsel to provide direct site support for claims and dispute matters for ongoing projects (approximately USD 14 billion in contract value) in the region. His experiences include international dispute resolution (arbitration and litigation) involving a wide range of complex construction issues, especially in delay and disruption claims.

His experiences also include advising on commercial transactions for EPC projects, and he has drafted, reviewed and negotiated related agreements for multibillion dollar EPC projects in various jurisdictions around the world, including United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Algeria, Oman, Bahrain, and Thailand. He has also acted as project counsel in such projects during their execution, advising the project teams in contracts, claims and disputes issues.

Prior to joining Kim & Chang, Mr. Lee was a principal counsel in Samsung Engineering Co., Ltd. from 2007 to 2016. He was based in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. from 2012 to 2015 and has served as MENA Regional Counsel for Samsung Engineering.

Mr. Lee is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., 2003) and University of Virginia (B.S., 2000). He was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 2003.
