Career

U Nyan has extensive experience in various aspects of law, having served more than 30 years in the Union Attorney-General’s Office. As a senior legal officer, he represented Myanmar in international fora such as the Sixth Committee (Legal committee) of the 62nd UN General Assembly, Working Group meetings of the UN Human Rights Council for Universal Periodic Review Mechanism, as well as ASEAN meetings.

He was involved in the drafting and negotiation of various international agreements for Myanmar, including the drafting of the Terms of Reference of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights, and the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration.

He has provided legal advice to Ministries and agencies on a variety of matters including Air Services Agreements, agreements concerning the ASEAN Free Trade Area, and Bilateral Investment Treaties. He had also been involved in the drafting of legislation including most recently the Financial Institutions Law.
