Career

Li Hoong was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2008. Li Hoong completed her pupillage in Skrine and practiced in the same firm until 2015. During this time, she was primarily engaged in employment and immigration work.

Her practice included advising clients on a broad spectrum of employment related matters including recruitment, immigration requirements, performance management, misconduct management, human resource policies and procedures, employee data privacy, voluntary separation schemes, restructuring and retrenchment exercises. She has also advised clients on employee issues arising from mergers and acquisitions, acquisition and disposal of businesses, joint ventures and privatisations.

Li Hoong has appeared as counsel or co-counsel in hearings at the Labour Court; unjust dismissal trials and collective agreement disputes at the Industrial Court; judicial review applications and civil trials in the High Court; and appeals in the Court of Appeal and Federal Court.

Prior to joining the firm, Li Hoong was legal counsel of a multinational general insurance company. During this time, she provided support in the management and resolution of legal and operational issues. This included provision of legal and advisory support on projects, ventures, governance activities, regulator interactions, product development and marketing; drafting, reviewing and negotiation of all types of agreements; as well as the monitoring and supervision of corporate litigation.

In 2019, Li Hoong took on a role as an industrial relations practitioner in a local banking group and conducted investigations, handled disciplinary matters and grievances, and participated in collective bargaining on behalf of the group.
