Career

Alper Arslan is a graduate of Ankara University Law School (1999). He obtained an LL.M. from the University of Nottingham in 2002. Mr. Arslan is admitted to the Istanbul Bar Association and the International Bar Association.

Alper Arslan has over twenty years of experience in dispute resolution. He started his legal career in 2000 in Ankara and worked as sole practitioner handling various cases involving Civil, Commercial, Labor, Criminal, Administrative and Execution Laws until 2007. Thereafter, he moved to Istanbul and has worked in Cosar Avukatlık Bürosu, a leading law firm in Turkey, which has been ranked in the first tier for dispute resolution by The Legal 500 and Chambers, for 15 years.

Mr. Arslan specializes in arbitration and litigation. In particular, “He has extensive experience in energy and post-M&A disputes before Turkish courts and arbitral tribunals.”– (Legal 500 – 2017).

His recent experience includes, among others, representing a multinational company in relation to a post-acquisition dispute before an ICC tribunal, an international energy company before Turkish courts, a leading bank involving damages claims arising out of fraudulent transactions, a chemical company in relation to the annulment of an ICC award, a construction company in relation to a dispute for delay and damages claims before an ISTAC tribunal, a major construction company in relation to damages claims before Turkish courts, a multinational entertainment company in international arbitration and litigation matters arising from a joint venture agreement, a multinational chemical company in compliance matters under Turkish law and a foreign state in relation to employment matters before Turkish Labor courts. Mr. Arslan also represented the state in three ICSID arbitrations brought under the Energy Charter Treaty, and in a related ECHR claim.

He co-authored Turkey’s chapter in Cross-Border Handbooks, Dispute Resolution Volume 1 and Volume 2: Arbitration and Turkey’s chapter of Chambers and Partners in International Arbitration: Law and Practice, Trends and Developments.
