Career

João G. Gil Figueira is a tax and business lawyer and co-founder of GFDL Advogados.

He counsels domestic and multinational businesses regarding Tax Law, Commercial, Corporate and Regulatory Law in the context of investment and cross-border operations in several sectors, including IT/FinTech, Media, Real Estate, M&A and Blockchain/Cryptoassets.

He advises a wide variety of clients, from founders and start-ups with disruptive business models to established companies with so-called traditional operations, with a view to developing and protecting their businesses and investments. He has assisted in private equity and venture capital operations, taxation and investment structuring, M&A deals, capital raises, commercial transactions, licensing and IP deals, corporate litigation, and shareholder disputes.

Additionally, he counsels Private Clients in relation to taxation, business migration, asset protection, estate planning, and wealth structuring matters. He represents individual investors and families before closely held businesses. He also represents artists and media producers.

He has co-authored several books and articles and is a regular speaker at international events and seminars on Taxation, Foreign Direct Investment, and Cryptocurrency regulation in Portugal.

He is a professional representative in trademark matters before the EUIPO.
