Profile:

For 40 years, Akhtar Imam has stood for excellence in legal service. He is a Senior Advocate (equivalent to Queen’s Counsel in England) of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and is regarded as one of the nation’s leading experts in company, commercial, banking, labour and employment and constitutional law. His specializes in litigation and commercial arbitration. Having enjoyed a successful law practice at the Bar of England and Wales for 10 years, he moved to Bangladesh and founded the firm in 1980.

Over the years he has advised clients like Pubali Bank Limited (the largest private commercial bank), Grameenphone (the largest mobile telecom operator with the highest number of subscribers), Biman Bangladesh Airlines (the national flag carrier airline), Pran Group (food and beverage giant) and Globe Pharmaceutical Group of Companies Limited (a leading diversified business group, the first company to invest in and build a state-of-the-art biotech facility).

As director (former) in the boards of multinationals like Singer Bangladesh and domestic food and beverage giants like Pran, the largest food & beverage brand in Bangladesh, he regularly advised on business and financial issues, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility and corporate ethics. He also provided leadership and strategic guidance to Marie Stopes Bangladesh (a concern of Marie Stopes International, an international NGO spanning 37 countries) as Chairman of its board of directors since its inception in Bangladesh.

During his illustrious career he has acted as both counsel and amicus curiae in ground-breaking cases in the constitutional history of Bangladesh, high profile company law litigation and landmark mergers & acquisitions in the telecommunications sector.
