Career

His focus areas are international trade, customs, cross-border M&A, project financing, International tax, intellectual property, private equity, real estate development, and cross border tax issues.  In the early days of the Asian financial crisis during which massive non-performing loans had to be disposed of to prevent bank failures, Stephan has led the first Korean real estate backed securitization of non-performing loans with the face value of US$ 1 billion for a U.S. based private equity and assisted major global investment banks and financial institutions in their acquisition of Korean assets and companies.

Prior to joining Lee International, Stephan was the lead foreign attorney at Sojong Partners.  Well versed in international tax, Stephan also has led the KPMG Korea Tax Division and went on to act as KPMG Asia Pacific Regional Tax Partner coordinating the KPMG Tax practices in 16 Asian countries.  While serving as the head of KPMG Korea Tax, he also oversaw antidumping and customs practices.

Stephan has over 10 years of experience in customs and antidumping practice. Stephan is also an adjunct professor since 2008 at the Korea University of Foreign Studies where he teaches International trades and international contracts for undergraduate and graduate students in the International Economics and Law Department.
