Career
Tjarda Tazelaar is an expert in corporate law and the head of our M&A team. He specializes in mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures and corporate restructurings. Tjarda advises corporations, financial institutions and investors in a variety of market sectors. The last few years his M&A practice has seen a focus on transactions in the financial services sector.

During the recent years, Tjarda was involved in several large cross-border transactions and projects. He led the team that advised Aon on the successful divestment of its insurance brokerage operations on the respective islands of the Dutch Caribbean. His team also advised AkzoNobel on the contemplated acquisition of paints and coatings company Grupo Orbis with operations across Central and South America (closing expected shortly). Some of the larger cross-border mandates he worked on last year as lead partner have continued into 2022 and have yet to be announced. This includes the envisioned multi-jurisdictional corporate restructuring of the largest financial institutions of the Dutch Caribbean. Two large, high-profile mandates (each having a USD 200M+ deal value) that Tjarda and his team worked on last year (in the financial services sector and hospitality sector, respectively), did not reach the finish line for strategic reasons.
Tjarda is qualified as a lawyer in the Dutch Caribbean and the Netherlands. He has been a board member of the Curaçao International Financial Services Association (CIFA) since 2020.
