BrookStreet des Roches is a 21st century commercial law practice, with a national reputation for real estate and curated complementary disciplines. Development, infrastructure and construction have been growth areas and real estate due diligence has become a core function as BrookStreet des Roches has worked in collaboration with other prestigious firms on some of the most prominent real estate projects reported in the last 12 months.

By operating a City-quality practice from an out of town base with lower overheads, BrookStreet des Roches represents a serious and attractive alternative to much larger practices. This is reflected by the exceptional calibre of both the firm’s client base and its lawyers and support teams.

The firm:  Growth has been achieved entirely organically and the firm’s lawyers have retained their independence and entrepreneurial spirit without compromise. It has the largest team of real estate lawyers in the Thames Valley/Oxford region, and has been judged by its peers to be the best: the firm recently won the prestigious Thames Valley Property Forum’s 2016 award for Best Property Law Firm. It is ranked in the top tier for real estate in the region.

The deliberate broadening of the firm’s skills base has also seen the commercial and data team particularly busy advising on the impact of GDPR. The health and care practice is beginning to show great promise.
Dispute resolution remains a highlight of the practice with particular strength in depth in property litigation, both supporting the real estate practice and attracting its own independent plaudits.

BrookStreet des Roches has had a number of exciting client wins, being appointed to some of the biggest and most active commercial real estate portfolios on behalf of worldwide investors whilst retaining and enhancing its position as proud corporate partners to a host of prestigious names. Clients include high street retailers and restaurants, fitness centres, property developers, asset managers and investors, Oxford University colleges and spinout businesses, agribusinesses, manufacturers, health and care providers and software developers.

BrookStreet des Roches is a member of PRIME, an organisation which encourages law firms to offer work experience to young people from less privileged backgrounds who might otherwise not have the opportunity to access careers in the legal world. The firm encourages and supports flexible working.

Types of work undertaken: As the firm grows and matures, its areas of expertise are expanding to meet its clients’ wider commercial needs. In addition to its core real estate services, BrookStreet des Roches now advises on planning, construction, intellectual property/brand management, HR and employment, data security and a wide range of associated commercial and corporate services.

The firm’s expertise includes all aspects of landlord and tenant matters from acquisition and disposal of leasehold premises to rent reviews, lease renewals and lease end issues. Property investment is a notable area of expertise, including acquisitions and disposals, from business parks to multi-let buildings and from petrol filling stations to industrial centres, as well as management and funding.

Property development clients benefit from the firm’s comprehensive understanding of the legal, planning and commercial challenges that are involved, with expertise including land acquisition, sale and disposal, funding, planning and environmental issues, construction and overage agreements.

Portfolio management, particularly in the retail sector, is a specialism and the firm’s work includes due diligence, restructuring and estate management team support.

The dispute resolution team is involved in every variety of landlord and tenant issue, as well as professional negligence, commercial, shareholder and construction disputes.

Environmental expertise includes renewable energy advice and the impact of construction projects. Debt financing and franchising are also handled.

The corporate team handles M&A work as well as company restructures and refinances. It is active in property joint ventures work.
