Career

İlke Akçay, completed her law degree at Istanbul University in 2013. While studying at the university, she worked with Prof. Dr. İsmail Yılmaz Aslan as a legal intern in order to get to know the profession and gain experience, she took the first steps in gaining experience in dispute resolution by working on consumer law disputes. Also in her student years she started her litigation practice on maritime law in Yamaner&Yamaner Law. In 2017, she received her Master’s Degree in Economic Law from Istanbul Bilgi University, and wrote her master’s project titled “The Scope of Contractor’s All Risks Insurance Policy”.

İlke started her career as a legal intern at Andıç Eriş Law Office and in the early years of her career as a lawyer she gained experience on litigation in insurance law. She had assisted Ms. Ayşegül Andıç in arbitration disputes in which Ms. Andıç acted as an arbitrator After three years of experience in Andıç Eriş Law Office, she decided to open a new chapter in her career to expand her area of specialization and joined AKT Law.

In her first years working at the AKT, İlke had worked on subrogation cases on transport law for her client HDI Sigorta. Mentioned subrogation cases include the disputes arisen from maritime, CMR, internal land transportation damages mostly between cargo owner and carrier, the disputes arisen from freight forwarder’s liability. Following she handled the disputes in maritime law, transportation. She represented clients playing different roles in maritime and transportation such as shipowners, towage companies, shipyards, cargo owners in various case. Assisted the tugboat owner Sanmar which had been involved in numerous salvage operations for different vessels with several different disputes arisen from salvage fee claims which had been successfully . Represented the owners of “M/V DOĞAN BEY” in the dispute between the cargo insurer and ship owner arisen from the damage occurred during discharge operations.

In recent years she has been handling numerous lawsuits brought by injured parties against a warehouse insurer client after a major fire outbroken in Istanbul. She represents corporate policyholders, brokers and major insurance companies, and specially has extensive experience all risks, cargo, third party liability, energy & power coverage disputes. Her main practice areas have been for eight years in dispute resolution are insurance and marine. She represents corporate policyholders, brokers and major insurance companies, shipowners and specially has extensive experience all risks, cargo, third party liability, energy & power coverage disputes.

Also she is author of Legal 500 Insurance & Reinsurance Country Comparative Guide (Turkey) in 2017 and 2021 with Mr. Ercan Demir. Her key clients are Allianz Sigorta A.Ş. and HDI Sigorta A.Ş.
