Matjaž is the firm’s founding and managing partner, specialized in corporate and commercial law and recognized as a leading expert in M&A and financial transactions. In the course of his career, he has been advising in high-profile cases involving corporations and financial institutions on the domestic and international level. He handles large-scale privatization projects, private M&A transactions, financing projects, and financial and corporate restructurings. With significant experience in the energy industry, he has advised leading Slovenian energy companies in connection with the majority of their acquisitions and joint ventures. He recently also advised, inter alia, a leading soft drinks producer in Central Europe in connection with the acquisition of a majority equity stake in a leading Slovenian mineral water and non-alcoholic beverage producer, and with subsequent related acquisitions in the region.


Matjaž started his career as an associate at the Mitja Ulčar law firm. In 2005 he co-founded the firm Ulčar & partnerji and became its managing partner in 2009.


In addition to his native Slovenian, Matjaž speaks English, Croatian, Serbian and German.


He is a member of the Slovenian Bar Association.

A significant restructuring of the team at Ulčar & partnerji LLC has seen the firm develop a strong focus on corporate and M&A and banking and finance.
