Career
As a partner with the firm’s Finance & Insurance team and a business sector enthusiast, all energy of Augustas Klezys goes into providing cross-practice advice to financial sector companies.
Finance sector team leader. Within the firm Augustas leads this team by assembling legal experts to establish the specific legal needs of clients and provide them with exact solutions.
Most complex transactions. It has been a privilege to advise financial sector companies in most complex and innovative transactions. For example, Augustas worked with the Lithuanian legal teams that advised the Nasdaq, Luminor, Šiaulių bankas and LNG Terminal transactions.
Co-author for country opinion. In 2018 Augustas co-authored the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) netting country opinion for Lithuania. As Sorainen is a member of ISDA, Augustas plays an active role at meetings and provide insights on national derivatives-related regulations.
Advising FinTech firms. FinTech companies often seek Augustas’ advice on licencing their activities in the EU as well as to help them streamline operations after they obtain licences.
Ex-banker. His focus on the financial sector and cross-practice benefits is continuous: before joining Sorainen Augustas headed the legal unit at DNB Lithuania (now Luminor).

The deal illustrates the practice’s strong background in capital markets and Pan-Baltic instructions, but the team is also highly skilled in financing transactions and investment fund structures. Moreover, the group has also focused on growing areas such as fintech, green financing and cryptocurrency. Another area of focus is insurance law, where co-head Tomas Kontautas is a particular individual of note. Former banker Augustas Klezys also leads the team. Clients also single out senior associate Agnė Sovaitė, who specialises in finance and insurance.

Sorainen is heavily involved in the fintech market, with it advising a number of well-established players, and also assisting emerging entities through its collaboration Startup Wise Guys, an accelerator programme for local start-ups. The team is led by Tomas Kontautas and Augustas Klezys, with Kontautas predominantly focusing on regulatory compliance and Klezys focusing on licensing work. Other key names include counsel Lina Ragainytė-Mezenė, who has expertise in consumer lending. Another name to note is senior associate Auksė Trapnauskaitė, who recently joined from the Bank of Lithuania and specialises in anti-money laundering.
