Career

Chris believes the key to the delivery of the right, the most appropriate, advice and guidance to a client is gaining a clear understanding of the client’s culture and objectives. This is something he has always aimed to achieve and which he has found enables him to work more effectively as part of the client team whilst not compromising a lawyer’s necessary independence. It also makes the job more fun, and one can more readily give one’s best if the task is enjoyable! In any engagement, Chris prides himself on attention to detail and careful drafting.

Chris has a particular specialism in gambling regulation having advised the Gambling Commission since its inception and having been involved in the framing of relevant legislation and provisions of the Commission’s policy documents, including its Licence Conditions and Code of Practice. He has frequently sat as Legal Adviser to the Commission’s Regulatory Panel hearing licensing cases.

Whilst Chris’s current role as a consultant is principally advisory, during a career spanning over 45 years (including 35 as a partner at GRM Law, over 30 leading their litigation team and 7 as joint Managing Partner) he gained wide experience in the handling of civil disputes (both private and commercial) in fields including contract, construction, intellectual property, insolvency, professional negligence, estates and tax and also in public and administrative law having acted in Judicial Review proceedings both for and against public bodies.
