Career

Pauline has over twenty-five years’ experience in advising corporate entities, public authorities, trustees and unions in respect of every aspect of occupational pension schemes.

Clients applaud Pauline for her clear and unambiguous advice, attention to detail, and practical approach. In an area of law that is fraught with complexity, she seeks solutions to the problems that arise, and tries to minimise the impact of pension legislation.

Examples of Pauline’s experience include:

  • Advising employers and trustees on all aspects of occupational and personal pension schemes, including the impact of new legislation, regulatory changes, scheme governance, internal disputes and complaints to the Pensions Ombudsman.
  • Advising companies in respect of the “moral hazard” provisions of the Pensions Act 2004, the impact of proposed changes to these provisions and the notifiable events regime, liaising with the Pensions Regulator, and obtaining clearance (where required).
  • Assisting corporate clients in apportioning liability under the pension scheme amongst the participating employers.
  • Advising clients on risk reduction exercises, including the closure of pension schemes to future accrual, benefit redesign and enhanced transfer exercises.
  • Advising clients on public sector pension schemes, settling deeds of participation and admission agreements and advising on pass-through arrangements..

Pauline is able to appreciate the difficulties faced by both employers and trustees of pension schemes. She has a strong commercial background which informs her advice to employers and enables her to hone in on the issues of concern. For many years, she has also acted as a professional trustee of final salary pension schemes, and this has given her an important practical insight to the day-to-day difficulties faced by trustees.

Pauline is a member of the Association of Pension Lawyers, and the National Association of Pension Funds.
