Position

In the course of his career Jan has represented a great many managing directors, supervisory directors and shareholders of listed and unlisted companies. As an employers’ lawyer he has broad experience with the employment law aspect of reorganisations, mergers and acquisitions, as well as in the field of dismissal law. However, he also frequently represents individual employees. As a Registered Mediator he has a broad experience in facilitating the solution of all kinds of disputes in which professional organisations as well as individual managers and other employees are involved. In that capacity he has contributed over the years to the solution of a wide range of disputes involving the management of commercial and non-profit employers, (groups of) their employees and their works-councils. Jan is also a former Deputy Justice at the Court of Appeal of The Hague and a former member of the Disciplinary Board of the Bar of Amsterdam. He is a member of the Supervisory board of B.A.S.F. Netherlands B.V. and he regularly lectures and writes about developments in labour law.

Career

Jan has worked as an attorney since 1977. For almost 25 years he was in charge as the head of the employment law practice group of the tier 1 Stibbe law firm in Amsterdam where he was partner as from 1984, after which he continued to work for that firm as of counsel for several years. In 2014 Jan switched to Vestius Advocaten, where he is now continuing his practice as of counsel, both as a lawyer and as mediator.

Education

Jan studied law at the University of Utrecht (graduated in 1971) and studied Mediation at the A.D.R.-institute of the University of Amsterdam.
