Career

Georgi Kostolov has graduated from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Faculty of Law in 1998 and since 2007 he is registered with the Sofia Bar Association. His previous experience includes being a Legal Adviser with a Regional Tax Office, as well as a Chief Tax Expert with the Headquarters of the Bulgarian National Revenue Agency. He has also worked as a Senior Tax Advisor at Deloitte Bulgaria in 2006 and 2007.

Georgi is a specialist in the area of tax law, providing both legal consultancy and court representation on different tax issues. His experience includes participation in numerous Bulgarian-EU Accession projects, including participation in the Expert Group for implementing the Sixth VAT Directive and drafting the Bulgarian VAT Act; EU Accession Project for Kremikovtzi (the biggest Bulgarian metal factory) where he provided tax analysis of the company’s activities; tax structuring of Hewlett Packard’s Bulgarian Call Centre activities; determining the proper tax treatment of IBM warranty services and repairing and maintenance supplies; legal due diligence of Sofiiski Imoti on behalf of the Sofia Privatization Agency; structuring the sale of shares of CSKA (the biggest Bulgarian football club); legal advice on concession issues and prospecting, exploration and extraction of resources on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, etc. In addition to these projects, he has participated in the public procurement for developing of the relevant legislation for implementing the e-government system in Bulgaria.

His recent experience includes representation of some of the largest Bulgarian companies in court, as well as provision of tax consultancy to national and multinational clients, analyses of the consequences when there is a transfer of shares and assets, acquisition of land plots by foreign investors, distribution of dividends, etc. Some of his key clients include Balkantel, ADM Romania Trading, Boyana Dream Residence, Mylan, Pleven Heating Plant.

He is a member of the Tax and Legal Committee of the Confederation of the Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria (the biggest Bulgarian employers’ organization).

Georgi has publications on tax issues in numerous Bulgarian and international legal platforms.
