Advising and acting for clients on ESG-related risks

Overview

An array of risks from environmental to business ethics – including modern slavery and human rights – has for years been seen through the lens of ESG, along with related governance and boardroom responses.

As the imperative to prove ESG credentials becomes even more critical, the consolidation of these risks under a single banner is proving beneficial in explaining those risks to boards and streamlining a stronger, carefully-considered management response. As is increasingly apparent, the role of any leading ESG lawyer is to help clients promote ESG awareness within a business and to ensure compliance with an ever-increasing range of ESG regulatory obligations. The focus must also be on achieving outcomes which sensibly protect an organisation from such legal risks, without undermining the real opportunities and progress that better ESG management creates.

In this webinar hosted by Legal Business and sponsored by Travers Smith, a panel of ESG experts will discuss the interplay between disclosure regimes and litigations risk; climate change; business and human rights while also dispelling the myth that there’s a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ side of the ESG risk agenda. It will analyse some of the more preventative counselling and innovative work that Travers Smith is doing to help corporates avoid a major ESG crisis and mitigate the damage if such a situation occurs.

The session will also examine:

  • The nature of ESG risk today
  • What is happening in various jurisdictions
  • Future trends in ESG risk and how corporates are responding
  • Innovative solutions to ESG risk management.
