Event Report

The Legal 500 was pleased to be able to host its Dispute Summit Middle East 2022.

The event brought together in-house counsel and high-level executives based in the region to discuss a range of issues during the all-day Summit.

Chris Kay and Chris Vlachopoulos, Research Editors at The Legal 500, opened the Summit, followed by an opening address from Essam Al Tamimi, Chairman at Al Tamimi & Company.

During the day there were panel discussions from Al Tamimi & Company on the enforcement of domestic and foreign judgments and arbitration awards, 4 Stone Buildings addressing regulatory investigations and managing global companies, and K&L Gates tackling the complexities of litigation funding, followed by Charles Russell Speechlys’ take on arbitration institutions in the Middle East.

After lunch, White & Case discussed the effectiveness of alternate dispute resolution methods. Sam Karim KC took the hot seat asking several industry leaders questions regarding domestic and international arbitration. This was followed by FTI Consulting giving an overview of key elements over the last year from around the globe and FATF grey listing and sanctions.

The day was rounded off by an engaging discussion between Andrew Tarbuck of Al Tamimi & Company and Layla El-Wafi of Standard Chartered Bank on ESG compliance and the risks for upper management.

Thanks again to our headline sponsor, Al Tamimi & Company, and our panel sponsors White & Case, K&L Gates, Charles Russell Speechlys, 4 Stone Buildings, Gatehouse Chambers, and FTI Consulting; and our lunch sponsors Stephenson Harwood for supporting the event, as well as our panellists for sharing their expertise on a broad range of complex legal matters.
