Event Report
It has been an absolute pleasure for The Legal 500 to host the fourth edition of the GC Powerlist: Dominican Republic 2025 at the Hyatt Centric Santo Domingo Hotel, celebrating the outstanding achievements of the most esteemed senior in-house professionals shaping the country’s corporate legal landscape.
Held in the thriving financial and commercial hub of Santo Domingo, the reception welcomed general counsel, chief legal officers, legal directors and other leading corporate legal figures from across industries in the Dominican Republic, recognising their contributions to legal innovation, governance, and leadership. This landmark event underscores The Legal 500’s mission to continue highlighting and supporting the strategic role of in-house counsel in the Dominican Republic.
Licenciado Ricardo Pellerano, managing partner of Pellerano & Herrera, opened the evening by stressing that, for the firm, hosting the GC Powerlist reaffirms its dedication to excellence and to fostering a stronger legal community in the Dominican Republic. In welcoming the powerlisters to the event, he noted: “The GC Powerlist is not just an award; it is a distinction that highlights the vision, leadership, and influence of those who are transforming legal practice into a driver of innovation and competitiveness for their companies and for society.”
Following him, Marcos Ortega, general counsel at InterEnergy Group and keynote speaker of the evening, addressed the audience on behalf of the honoured corporate counsel. In his remarks, he drew a thoughtful parallel, observing that general counsel resemble general practitioners: although they may not save lives, they play a vital role in safeguarding and protecting both companies and their teams.
Carmen Godoy, lead editor of this edition of the GC Powerlist Dominican Republic at The Legal 500, closed the speeches by addressing the approximately 110 corporate legal professionals across industries who attended the reception in Santo Domingo. In her remarks, Godoy highlighted how the research conducted for this edition revealed the remarkable strength and diversity of the Dominican Republic’s in-house legal community.
According to her, the research showed a deep commitment to compliance and
governance, with frameworks that not only safeguard businesses but also foster trust in the market and society. At the same time, digital transformation is being driven proactively, with Dominican legal leaders not simply preparing for it, but actively leading it. Legal teams are embracing LegalTech, AI, and other tools to ensure efficiency and to keep businesses future-ready. Equally important is the strong focus on human-centred leadership, with a generation of legal leaders dedicated to building resilient teams, motivating talent, and recognising that true success is measured as much by people as by processes. Finally, many honourees are amplifying their social impact, extending their influence beyond the corporate world through diversity initiatives and community projects, reinforcing the lawyer’s role as an agent of positive change.
This year’s Dominican Republic powerlisters were invited to exchange reflections with both Godoy and David Freeman, global development manager at The Legal 500, who was present at the reception, as well as with their fellow professional colleagues in attendance.
The GC Powerlist: Dominican Republic 2025 reception was an evening of celebration and the culmination of an extensive research process that recognises the exceptional talent and quality of the in-house lawyers who are shaping the future of the Dominican Republic’s legal landscape.
On behalf of the entire team at The Legal 500, we extend our warmest congratulations to all those included in the 2025 edition of the GC Powerlist: Dominican Republic. You stand as an example of resilience, leadership, and vision.
We would also like to take this opportunity to extend our deepest gratitude to Pellerano & Herrera, our sponsors, for their support and for joining us in this mission to strengthen the legal community in the country and, of course, to each of the honourees who shared their time, insights, and stories with us. Without you, this project would not have been possible.
