30 Park Place Chambers is one of the premier sets for criminal work in South Wales, with particular specialisms in serious sexual offences, drug-related and violent crimes. Sexual offences specialist Caroline Rees QC recently led for the prosecution of married couple Peter and Avril Griffiths, dubbed the "Fred and Rosemary West of Barry" by the media, who were convicted of the rape and grooming of teenage girls over three decades.

The criminal team at 9 Park Place is home to members who are instructed on a wide range of cases for both the prosecution and defence. Notable recent cases include Owen Williams representing a man who was acquitted of murder but convicted of manslaughter after a drug-related stabbing in Cardiff; the co-defendant was convicted of murder. For the RSPCA, he also prosecuted a man who entered a guilty plea to Sexual Offences Act and Animal Welfare Act offences after engaging in sex acts with his two male Bedlington Terriers; the defendant was given a suspended prison sentence plus a ten-year ban from owning animals.

Apex Chambers is home to a strong contingent of criminal advocates, with members appearing in some of the region's most notable cases for all parties. Of recent note, Christopher Rees defended former Commonwealth Games swimmer Otto Putland, who was acquitted of rape.

Silks Patrick Harrington QC and Paul Lewis QC at Farrar's Building remain prominent forces on the Wales and Chester Circuit, with involvement on several high-profile homicide cases in the last year. The pair were on opposing sides of a drug-related turf war murder case stemming from the stabbing of a teenager in Connah's Quay - Harrington QC defended and Lewis QC prosecuted.

Owen Edwards at Linenhall Chambers prosecutes and defends cases including sexual and violence offences, as well as fraud.

Notable recent cases included one in which David Hughes represented the owner more than 50 sheep which were seized and sold by Forest of Dean Council, which unsuccessfully sought to rely on sections of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847, which allow sheep found "at large in any street" to suffer that fate.
