Further highlights for Hill include acting for Lakes Biomass on its sale to Forest Fuels and advising one of the shareholders of Online Systems on its MBO. Key sector focuses include transport, education, professional services and nuclear. In an illustration of its education-sector capability, Noctor advised Carlisle College on the preparation of a series of contracts and sub-contracts for the delivery of the Skills Support for the Workforce programme, which is being funded by the European Social Fund ESF funded programme. Other highlights included assisting Lloyd Motors with its acquisition of a Jaguar franchise from Clelands of the Borders, and acting for the shareholders of Denton Tyres on its sale to Micheldever. Other clients include Hudson Swan Engineering and H&H Group; Walby acted for the latter on its acquisition of Armitage Livestock Insurance Brokers.

Cartmell Shepherd’s team of ‘commercial and pragmatic partners demonstrates knowledge and technical abilities that are comparable to any others in the market’, and is praised for its ‘comprehensive, fast and accurate advice’. The group, which sits as part of the firm’s business services team, regularly works with the employment and real estate departments and is led by associate Nick Hodgson, who ‘provides sound advice that is always level-headed’. Hodgson regularly handles M&A transactions, MBOs, restructurings, distribution agreements and franchising matters.
