Career

With more than 30 years’ experience, Michiru Takahashi focuses on trademark, unfair competition, and copyright issues, including infringement litigation, licensing, trademark clearance and counseling, and trademark prosecution. In particular, she has extensive experience protecting trade dress and product configuration. As lead counsel, she represented Mag Instrument in the landmark case at the Intellectual Property High Court. The case marked the first time the court granted 3-D trademark registration to a product configuration. She also frequently advises on cross-border technology transactions involving patent and know-how licensing focusing on life science and software-related services. Michiru also advises clients on privacy and personal information protection in Japan and foreign countries, including the development of internal policies, counseling on data transfer, and responses to data breach incidents.
