UPL is the listed parent of the UPL group. UPL SAS houses the group’s India crop protection business, while the global crop protection business is held under UPL Crop Protection Holdings Limited through indirect subsidiaries including Arysta LifeSciences India Limited.

The CCI unconditionally approved the merger of 51 transferor companies into MGDL, under Section 31(1) of the Act. The proposed combination, structured as a scheme of amalgamation under the Companies Act, 2013, consolidated entities that largely operated under the common ‘Malabar Gold and Diamonds’ brand and under the existing control of MGDL.

An information had been filed against Reliance Jio Infocom Limited and more than 4,500 entities operating across various sectors of the economy, inter alia alleging contravention of the provisions of Sections 3 and 4 of the Act. The informant had raised allegations of anti-competitive practices spanning multiple sectors, including logistics, telecommunications, Government-e-Marketplace (‘GeM’) procurement, energy and infrastructure, batteries and energy storage, plywood and engineered wood products, cement, steel and electrical products, information technology hardware, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (‘FMCG’), education, fertilisers, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, laminates, plastic and pipes, mattresses, staple foods, and real estate in the eastern and north-eastern regions of India.

A valuable asset does not solve a debt problem if it cannot generate cash before the debt falls due for long term projects, like infrastructure projects and engineering groups. Projects, operating businesses and long-term investments may take years to generate or release cash, while holding-company debt falls due on a fixed date. The group has to turn its assets into cash, refinance the debt or extend the maturity before the choices become more limited.

The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2026 (Act No. 20 of 2026) (MMDR Amendment Act) received Presidential assent and was published in the Gazette of India on 17 August 2026, further amending the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 (MMDR Act).
