Career
Kiyoshi Tsuru is a prominent lawyer specializing in intellectual property, with a focus on innovation, cyberspace, domain name disputes, digital copyright protection, software safeguarding, patents, geographical indications, electronic transactions related to intellectual property rights, and arbitration.
As the Founding Partner and Director of TMI Abogados, he leads a diverse team of experts at the forefront of global innovation trends, diligently working to safeguard their clients’ Intellectual Property.
Tsuru serves as an arbitrator at both the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the National Institute of Copyright (INDAUTOR). Additionally, he holds the role of Country Manager at BSA | The Software Alliance and represents the Entertainment Software Association (The ESA) in Mexico.
Due to his extensive expertise in Intellectual Property and his academic background, Kiyoshi was asked to lead the task force representing the private sector in intellectual property discussions during the negotiation for the Free Trade Agreement between the United States, Mexico, and Canada (USMCA) and the Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and the European Union (EU-Mexico FTA).
Kiyoshi Tsuru has earned recognition as a thought leader owing to his expertise in the legal implications surrounding digital technologies, particularly focusing on Intellectual Property rights: his knowledge spans various areas including Artificial Intelligence regulation, cybersecurity, metaverse, and Web3 technologies.
He founded and served as Chair of the Information and Communication Technologies Committee of the Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AMPPI), the Information Technology Law Commission of the Mexican Bar Association (BMA), and the Intellectual Property Rights Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce Mexico (AMCHAM).
He is currently a member of the Artificial Intelligence Working Group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) and serves in the Board of Trustees of the Council of Global Action Against Gun Violence (GAGV).
