Ms Sophie Jermine
Work Department
Partner; Cross-Border Transactions
Position
Sophie Jermine is a partner in Akin’s corporate group. For nearly 20 years, she has concentrated on special situations, cross-border transactions and the operation, financing and governance of multi-tier corporate groups in a diverse range of geographies (e.g. UK, US, Cayman Islands, Channel Islands, Luxembourg, Ireland, Spain, Australia & Hong Kong) and industries (e.g. retail, insurance, litigation funding, technology and financial services). She regularly works with US fund managers, looking to expand their global footprint. Particular strengths of Ms. Jermine are her knowledge of fund managers’ preferences for investment structures plus the types of tax and regulatory matters that are relevant for international investments by funds. She has substantive experience of handling interactions between corporates and their investors.
Ms. Jermine is often engaged at the outset of an investment, advising on the investment transaction itself and, thereafter, is retained to lead multi-disciplined and multi-jurisdiction teams on transactions undertaken by the portfolio group and advise the investors as their trusted advisor in a quasi-general counsel capacity throughout the life cycle of the investment to exit (e.g., by way of sale, IPO and liquidation).
She has extensive financial restructuring experience, having acted on many high profile restructurings, distressed acquisitions and divestments.
